2013 Association TRENDS

2013 All Media Contest Categories

All entries will be judged on creativity, quality of content and overall design.

  1. Monthly Trade Association Magazine 
    A monthly magazine published by a trade association. How entries for this category will be judged: Creativity in both artistic as well as substantive content of one edition of your publication.
  2. Monthly Professional Society Magazine 
    A monthly magazine published by a professional society. How entries for this category will be judged: Creativity in both artistic as well as substantive content of one edition of your publication.
  3. Scholarly/Technical/Scientific Journal 
    A research or science-based magazine published on a monthly basis. How entries for this category will be judged: Creativity in both artistic as well as substantive content of one edition of your publication.
  4. Most Improved Magazine or Journal 
    A new format or re-design of an organization’s publication from one year to the next. The improved version of the magazine or journal must have been published between Nov. 1, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2013. Entries in this category must include two samples: a “before” and an “after.”
  5. Annual or Quarterly Magazine or Journal 
    Annual, bimonthly, biannual, seasonal (published three times a year) and quarterly magazines or journals should be submitted here.
  6. Daily or Weekly Communication 
    Entries in this category can be in the form of an e-newsletter, radio program, podcast etc.
  7. Monthly Newsletter or Communication 
    Entries in this category can be in the form of an e-newsletter, radio program, podcast etc.
  8. Direct Marketing Piece/Promotion
    Any marketing piece designed to promote your organization. Examples include: direct mail package, postcard, brochure, poster, sign, invitation, folder, holiday card, etc.
  9. CD, Video, Podcast or PSA 
    An informational CD, video, podcast or infomercial used to promote an association or industry issue.
  10. Advertising Media Kit 
    A media kit to solicit support for the association’s publications or programs through the media. How entries for this category will be judged: Clarity of the kit, and the creativity with which your message for your organization is conveyed.
  11. Exhibitor Sales Kit 
    A media kit to solicit support for the association’s publications programs or conferences through the advertising and sponsorship opportunities. How entries for this category will be judged: Clarity of the kit, and the creativity with which your message for your organization is conveyed.
  12. Convention Promotion Package 
    A convention promotion package sent to prospective participants for the association’s convention or annual meeting.
  13. Convention Program 
    A convention event handout that includes the convention’s daily schedule, explanation of events, and general event information.
  14. Promotional Items 
    A give-away item that promotes the association, an event or an association-related project. Examples include tote bags, hats, mugs, wine bottles, etc.
  15. Membership Promotion Kit or Campaign
    A package containing print or electronic collateral and promotional items sent to the organization’s members or potential members.
  16. Membership Directory 
    A published listing of all members, which may include supporting information on committees, board officers and bylaws. Print, online and CD formats are all eligible.
  17. Book/Manual/Catalog 
    Published bound and online volumes and books; multipage and online manuals and booklets; product and program offerings catalogs.
  18. Annual Report 
    An annual report with a description of activities, programs, conditions and finance.
  19. Commemoration/Tribute
    A book, video, pamphlet, etc. to honor a specific person, event, celebration, etc. Examples include the organization’s anniversary, person of the year, CEO retirement, etc.
  20. Educational Program
    A standalone program in book, CD, DVD or online form designed for educational use.
  21. Social Media
    How does your association use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, Google +, blogs, etc.?
  22. Web Sites 
    A general web site, special project website, or foundation site. Please provide passwords if special access is required.
