2012 Bronze Award: Forward Magazine | Media Kit 2013

Advertising Media Kit

Forward Magazine | Media Kit 2013

Judge’s Comments: Comment on Bronze Winner MSCI – The Forward magazine media kit was well organized and designed. While it was not the “flashiest” design it also wasn’t lacking. More importantly, the content was well written and it was very clear for me, as a potential advertiser, who I would be reaching and what I would get for my investment. I really liked that the advertising kit included a quote from a reader, while others included quotes from other advertisers, this was a unique advantage. I also liked that in addition to the editorial calendar, the kit included an overview of their “regular departments,” providing a bit more information about the content advertisements would be featured with.

2012 Bronze Award: International Wood: The Guide to Applications, Sources & Trends (2012)

Annual or Quarterly Magazine or Journal

cheap viagra online

Judge’s Comments: Beautiful photos and layout, befitting the content. However, sometimes it was hard to distinguish between advertising from editorial by glance-through. Hairline dividing lines might be the easy fix. Great article on “man caves,” especially since differing views are included, demonstrating an editorial objectivity sometimes not found in association publications. Like the editorial tone, too, casual and my guess, perfect for the intended reader.

2012 Bronze Award: Asphalt Institute 2011 Annual Report

Annual Report

Asphalt Institute 2011 Annual Report

Judge’s Comments: This entrant was far and away the “sexiest” of all of the entrants, with its silk paper and minimalist exterior graphics, and it ran a very close third to the second place winner for some of the same reasons – well written text and coverage of accomplishments. The interior graphic design was fabulous and internally consistent, although was a different look than what we had expected from the cover and the first few pages. This association clearly values each of its members and affiliates – as indicated by the inclusion of their logos on the first two-page spread. And the introduction was one of the best statements of mission and vision that we’ve read. This earned extra points because this is one of the most important qualities of a document that is often used in the recruitment of new members. However, it was somewhat text heavy and the fact that there were so many uncaptioned photos was diminished the effectiveness of including them.

2012 Bronze Award: Cleaning & Restoration – November/December 2011

Cleaning & Restoration - November/December 2011

Judge’s Comments: As associations, we are indebted to our long-time contributors who have dedicated their lives mastering the industry in which they work and educating colleagues and up-and-comers along the way. Ms. Patti Harman, Editor-in-Chief of Cleaning & Restoration, wrote in her Commentary for this special tribute to Martin King, that she had hoped “this tribute expresses our heartfelt thanks and admiration for the impact he [King] has had on so many.” With touching imagery, and pages of personal messages throughout, we would say, Ms. Harman, you’ve nailed it.

2012 Bronze Award: Last Word – April 24, 2012

Daily or Weekly Communication

Last Word - April 24, 2012

Judge’s Comments: American Council of Engineering Companies’ Last Word is full of news-oriented content with clear connections to membership interests. Regular charts, photos, and features pass along information in a mostly-graphic way. Photo captions convey almost as much detail as the stories themselves. The April 2012 issue was particularly robust, because it contained post-conference coverage.

2012 Bronze Award: PMA “Member Stories” Campaign

Direct Marketing Piece/Promotion

PMA "Member Stories" Campaign

Judge’s Comments: Over the years many entrants have tried the “Washington angle” for their group often end up in the weeds. This is a great exception; The PMA  brochure’s writing is clear and to the point; The information about the PMA has a human interest story. This story telling is really very strong and permits key points to be naturally introduced into the this entrant; The layout is easy to follow and designed to be read as a headline and a topic sentence without loss of understanding; QR codes and a special pma.com/memberstories provide quick ways to get the details across to members and non-members.
