The Wall Street Journal this week reported that the "once-booming nonprofit sector" is now forced to go through painful restructuring, including mergers, acquisitions, collaborations, cutbacks and closings, due to falling donations. The Association TRENDS Association Pulse Survey, released this past fall, found that about a third of associations - 31% - also have considered the drastic measure of merging as a way to continue to operate during this recession.
