In an opinion article, Public Relations Society of America CEO Mickey Nall argued that despite the advantages of automation, “there’s something fundamentally wrong, though, about automating social media engagement.” Using automated responses, though they might ease a PR professional’s workload, are “disingenuous, painful to read and, frankly, a bit insulting.” Instead, Nall believes that the best way to deal with social media is through a good staff with well-thought out communications plans.

Word of Mouth Marketing Association annual summit will be Nov. 18-20 at the Omni Nashville (Tenn.) Hotel, Tenn. The event features educational sessions, exhibits and networking opportunities. More than 500 participants attended last year's summit.
