Steve Bartlett will retire as CEO of the Financial Services Roundtable effective Dec. 31.
In a letter to members, Bartlett laid out reasons for his decision, including “It’s time,” he said, noting he has been CEO since 1999 and "no other CEO at a financial services trade exceeds that tenure. " Also, with a presidential election coming up, he said making an executive level change is better at the start of a new governing cycle, plus "a new messenger will provide some new ways of delivering the message."
Before the Roundtable, Bartlett represented Texas in the US House, and later was elected mayor of Dallas.
