2013 Nonprofit CFO of the Year - Marvin Irby
The chief administrative and financial officer of the National Restaurant Association is the 2013 Nonprofit CFO of the Year.
Marvin Irby will be honored at the 2013 Nonprofit CFO of the Year Awards Luncheon, Jan. 31 in Washington. Also to be honored:
• Transformational Leader: National Organization - Samantha Barbee, CFO, International Youth Foundation
• Transformational Leader: State Organization - Forrest M. Cason, CFO, Mental Health Center of Denver
• CFO Rising Star - John P. Lozito, finance director, Academy of Management.
Irby is responsible for human resources, finance, IT and strategy for the National Restaurant Association and its education foundation. Before joining the D.C.-based restaurant group, he was CFO of Shawmut Design & Construction, a national construction management firm in Boston. Earlier, Irby was finance, global support VP for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. He has more than 25 years of experience in the finance field.
For National Restaurant Association, Irby guided the organization through a major property sale in Washington in the past year. In his three years with the association, Irby improved the group's annual planning process to better align with the strategic plan of the association and its educational foundation. Under his direction, the association implemented both short- and long-term incentive plans for key executives, and updated the performance management system, compensation structure, and titling standards. Also, Irby implemented an enterprise-wide forecasting process that ties directly to organizational strategy.
He serves on the board of Big Sisters of Boston, and was a board member of the Orlando chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants. He was treasurer for the Heart of Florida United Way.
Irby earned a bachelor's degree and MBA at Northwestern.
