Society for Economic Anthropology merged officially with the American Anthropological Association, Arlington, Va., on March 13, and is now a AAA section that retains the SEA name.
The anthropological group members voted in December to incorporate SEA into the association. In May, SEA president Katherine Browne proposed that SEA be folded into anthropological group as an unincorporated section.
The merger will convert SEA's monograph series into a peer-reviewed journal called Economic Anthropology, which is slated to launch in January.
SEA will continue to offer its three prizes, the Halperin Memorial Fund, the Harold Schneider Prize, and the SEA Book Prize. The new AAA section will also continue its annual conference each spring, this year April 11-14 in St. Louis.
The anthropological group has 40 sections, including SEA. Details: www.aaanet.org.
