New CEO for social workers group

Anthony “Angelo” McClain, PhD, LICSW, is the new CEO of the National Association of Social Workers, Washington. He succeeds Elizabeth J. Clark, PhD, ACSW, MPH, who has led the organization since 2001.

McClain was commissioner for the Massachusetts Children and Families Department, appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick six years ago. Previously, he was executive director of the New Jersey Division of Child Behavioral Health Service Center.

A native of Texas and an alumnus of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, he earned a B.S. in social work from West Texas State University, an M.S. in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a PhD in social work from Boston College. He is an adjunct faculty member in the Urban Leadership Program at Simmons College.
