    New executive director for National Press Photographers Association

    Former chief staff executive moved to Guatemala for Spanish immersion program


    Charles W.L. "Chip" Deale, CAE, is the new executive director of the National Press Photographers Association.

    He succeeds Mindy Hutchison, who resigned effective Oct. 1. Hutchison moved to Guatemala to begin a Spanish language immersion program and to volunteer for NGOs and nonprofits. Hutchison plans to live in Central or South America after finishing the Spanish program.

    Deale has 37 years of executive-level experience with international and national nonprofit organizations. He formerly directed society relations for the CFA Institute in Charlottesville, Va. Before CFA, Deale was a marketing and communications director for a masonry association.

    He served on the ASAE board from 2006 to 2009, and on the board of the American Red Cross Central Virginia Chapter from 2005 to 2008. When he was 28, he became one of the youngest professionals to earn the CAE.

    Deale earned degrees in journalism and political science at George Washington University.
