New executive director for National Society of Professional Engineers

Mark J. Golden, CAE, FASAE, is the new executive director of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Alexandria, Va., effective Jan. 31.

He succeeds Lawrence A. Jacobson, who became executive director in 2007.

Golden most recently served as CEO of the National Court Reporters Association, where he also served as the VP of the International Federation for Information and Communication Processing, Brussels. Before joining NCRA in 1998, Golden directed legislative, regulatory and industry development activities for the Personal Communications Industry Association. Earlier he worked in government relations for 12 years at the Association of Telemessaging Services International.

Within the association community, Golden is a past vice chairman of ASAE and past chairman of the ASAE Foundation, among other leadership roles for both organizations. He has contributed to association-related strategic research studies and publications, including "Seven Measures of Success," and is a speaker and author on issues of not-for-profit management.

Golden recently has written a column for Association TRENDS called "Golden Commentary." The last column in this series will appear in February.

He is an ASAE Fellow and a recipient of ASAE's Key Award, the organization's highest honor given to an association CEO.

Golden is an honors graduate of the University of Virginia. He earned degrees in English and theater.
