Nine cruise-related groups form new global association

01/03/2013

The global cruise industry will now be represented by one organization, as nine related associations have agreed to operate under a common organization.

The association will be known as Cruise Lines International Association, and comprise the existing CLIA, European Cruise Council, Asia Cruise Association, Passenger Shipping Association, AFCC of France, ABREMAR of Brazil, Northwest and Canada Cruise Association, Alaska Cruise Association, and International Cruise Council Australasia.

Christine Duffy, CEO of CLIA, will serve as CEO of the new association. The new group's staff will be located around the world.

Member associations will use the CLIA name with the appropriate geographic designation. Existing association offices will remain in place.

CLIA will be governed by a global executive committee, chaired by Howard Frank, COO, Carnival Corp. Details: www.cruising.org.
