(Top) Duke U. professor Dan Ariely was well-received by the audience at the Digital Now Conference last week at Walt Disney World in Orlando FL. He discussed his book The Upside of Irrationality.
(Middle) It wasn’t all work at the Digital Now Conference. Disney sr. VP George Aguel was joined on stage by “Ann Tenna,” a new Disney character, whose hairstyle is optimized for connectivity.
(Bottom) Panelists enjoy a moment of levity in the session on "Dealing with Mobility." From left are Greg Fine, CAE, marketing and communications VP, Association for Corporate Growth and a past TRENDS Young & Aspiring Association Professional; Kim Howard, editor-in-chief, Association of Corporate Counsel; Carrie Hartin, Network Media Patners; and Anne Zender, communications VP, American Health Information Management Association. Some insights imparted by the panelists:
Fine: "Content is no longer king, but context is king, and there is value in that for members."
Howard: "Don’t benchmark yourself in terms of mobile against other associations, benchmark against the for-profit publishers."
Hartin: "Advertisers have a long way to go to understand the benefits of social media; as publishers, we are struggling, but them more so."
Zender: "Remember: apps are like puppies. When you’re done with the magazine you’re done - but apps need constant tending."
