Washington-area associations and nonprofits are keen on giving raises based on the merit/performance of the staff member, according to the TRENDS 2012 Compensation Survey. DC nonprofits did not give raises at all for longevity only, merit/performance and longevity, and cost of living and longevity. Nationally, nonprofits were a bit more balanced in their approaches to raises. Merit/performance only and cost of living only ranked about equal among nonprofits across the country for determining raises, 34.86 percent and 33.97 percent, respectively. This year, participation in the survey was close to 2,000 organizations, making the TRENDS survey the largest to monitor nonprofit salaries. Details: Duncan Bell, dbell@columbiabooks.com.
