, Washington, and other groups are raising concerns over new rules proposed by the Federal Trade Commission that seek to increase privacy for children online. The suggested revisions to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act would expand the bill’s coverage to include mobile apps; currently it only restricts websites from collecting information on users younger than 13. The associations claim the revision would impose an onerous cost on app developers, and would restrict children’s’ beneficial use of the internet through smartphones.
