Turmoil at the IRS, Congressional investigations, and competing “reform” proposals all focus on the political activities of nonprofit organizations, but what are the practical implications of this increased scrutiny to your organization?

In just 90 minutes, you'll get the expert guidance you need to ensure ongoing success in a wide range of activities, including nonpartisan public policy issue advocacy, lobbying and grassroots efforts, member involvement, political communications and campaign activities.

Order the recording to listen in as our speakers explain best practices for 501(c)(3) organizations to continue their communications and public outreach programs without running afoul of IRS limitations on lobbying activities and prohibitions against political activities.

We’ll also explore the differing interpretations of the “primary purpose” test and the extent to which it limits/enables the political activities of Section 501(c)(4), (c)(5), and (c)(6) organizations

What You Will Learn:
Reserve your space now to take the guesswork out of issue advocacy for your organization and learn:

  • What are the common issues and special challenges that nonprofits now face as a result heightened scrutiny by the IRS, Congress and the media
  • Which education, issue advocacy, lobbying and political activities a non-profit organization can engage in, depending on its tax status
  • Learn the rules of the game in structuring your communications and other activities to make sure your voice is heard whether your organization is a 501(c)(3),(4), (5) or (6) organization
  • How 501(c)(3) organizations can help establish a related organization under a different tax exemption to engage in substantial lobbying and participate in political activities
  • How to structure your activities and remain compliant with IRS, LDA, and FEC requirements and avoid reporting pitfalls that may unnecessarily invite IRS, GAO, or FEC audits and media scrutiny
  • Recent state efforts to regulate political activities and increase donor disclosure
