Association executives dominate the recently announced President's Task Force on Apprenticeship Expansion. Three of them are TRENDS Association Executives of the Year.

Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta made the appointments, which were announced on Oct. 16. Among them are Association Executives of the Year Tom Donohue, Dawn Sweeney and Jay Timmons.

The mission of the task force is to identify strategies and proposals to promote apprenticeships, especially in sectors where apprenticeship programs are insufficient. Association executives who were appointed include:

Michael Bellaman, CEO, Associated Builders and Contractors

    Joshua Bolten, CEO, Business Roundtable

Walter Bumphus, CEO, American Association of Community Colleges

Thomas J. Donohue, CEO, U.S. Chamber and a past TRENDS Association Executive of the Year

Montez King, executive director, National Institute for Metalworking Skills

Katherine Lugar, CEO, American Hotel and Lodging Association

Marc H. Morial, CEO, National Urban League

Mark B. Rosenberg, board of directors, Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities

Dawn Sweeney, CEO, National Restaurant Association and the 2017 TRENDS Association Executive of the Year; and

Jay Timmons, CEO, National Association of Manufacturers and a past TRENDS Association Executive of the Year.

Other members represent companies, educational institutions and labor unions. Two are governors and one is an actor, John Ratzenberger, who is listed as a “workforce training advocate.” Ratzenberger, who is a Republican active in politics, played know-it-all postal worker Cliff Clavin on the 1980s sitcom Cheers. For the complete list, click here. Congratulations to all the members of this new task force!

There is still time to be there to fete the 2017 Nonprofit CFO of the Year honorees, Oct. 24 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington. Not only can you show support for these fine executives, who work in the often unheralded job of keeping an association in good financial health, but there will also be a dynamic keynote speaker. Rob Scheer will discuss his charity Comfort Cases and the touching back story behind its creation. For details and to register for the ceremony and luncheon, go to www.NonorofitCFOAward.com.
