Association of Fundraising Professionals named Mike Geiger, MBA, CPA, as CEO, effective Nov. 1. He succeeds Andrew Watt, FInstF, who stepped away from AFP in June 2016 after 10 years. AFP general counsel Jason Lee has acted as interim CEO.

Geiger has been COO of the Chief Executives Organization for the past seven years. Earlier he was CFO at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and CFO of the German Marshall Fund of the U.S. for six years. He also has held top finance positions in the hospital/medical provider industry in the Washington area.

He is a board member and chair of the Finance and Investment Committee of the Romanian American Foundation.

Born and raised in Copenhagen, he moved to the U.S. to attend college. He earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Richmond and an MBA at Northeastern.

Watt had been CEO since 2011. He joined AFP in 2006 as international development VP and promoted to chief programs officer in 2008. He stepped away following a staff reorganization, according to the Nonprofit Times.
