2011 Silver Award: The Long White Line

CD, Video, Podcast or PSA

Judge’s Comment: The informational video not only gives the history of nurses but also creates a genuine investment in nurses. While watching the video, the viewer feels a sense of loyalty to nurses and an appreciation for what they do. And after investing the viewer in the profession, they make the successful jump to show that the PSNA supports these nurses. Very good video. Compelling story telling.

2011 Bronze Award: Understanding Solar Reflection & Heat Distortion

CD, Video, Podcast or PSA

Judge’s Comment: By using a simple white board the video engages and educates on a relatively low budget. The subject matter is very dry and it’s difficult to engage people who are not experts in the field. But through the use of the whiteboard, the subject matter becomes not only manageable but entertaining. The creativity of the video is the most impressive part about it. Other associations should take note, it doesn’t take a massively produced video to tell the story and communicate your message.

Judge’s Comments: The International Association of Fire Fighters commemorative piece is a stand out. Its use of transparent papers, quotes, and haunting black and white imagery reflects the tragedy of 9/11 and celebrates the souls who perished in this world-changing event. The piece is purposeful and unique, and achieves its goal in that it is an informative, effective, and commemorative keepsake.

2011 Gold Award: 26th Management & Leadership Conference Learning Journal

Convention Program

Judge’s Comments: I loved how easy this piece was to navigate. There are many thoughtful touches included throughout, like the tabs to guide you through each day’s events that are laminated so they won’t tear easily. Other smart ideas are the pages in the back to keep business cards the user collects throughout the conference, and the well-designed section for taking notes. The conference book is really all you need to carry with you to have a successful conference.

2011 Bronze Award: AAP Onsite Program

Convention Program

Judge’s Comments: The AAP used smart design to present an abundance of information about its conference. Graphic icons use both color and shape to quickly guide users to sessions of interest. The headshots throughout the front of the book are a nice touch. Photos throughout the rest of the book are well-chosen. The type and column selections make readers want to give each page a thorough read.

2011 Gold Award: Celebrating 20 Years of Advancing Justice (2011 American Courage Awards)

Convention Promotion Package

Judge’s Comments: This packet exhibits elegance and unusual creativity. The design is inventive, especially the wheel that displays a timeline of accomplishment and impact. The translucent envelope that contains the invitation is another touch that suggests an elevated tone to their event. The layout is clean and attractive, and the color scheme is warm and serene.  The content itself is clear and crisp–no wasted verbiage or needless clutter. All these elements are in keeping with an overall impression of style and dignity–both clearly the goal of AAJC’s conference.

2011 Silver Award: “Packaging. Processing. Powerful.” – PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2011 Attendee Promotional Materials

Convention Promotion Package

Judge’s Comments: This package benefits from two very creative ideas.  The first is the theme of raw material to finished product, which is sustained throughout–and is especially effective as a visual device.  Related to this is the extremely effective template that ties a variety of businesses and industries together.  By creating a design that allows for modular copy and visuals, each mailing appears designed for a specific industry. This allows the organization to maintain quality across the mailings–based on the clean and effective design–while leveraging costs of production. The colors used are also vibrant and appealing. Finally, the goal of these mailings–to get guests registered–is addressed very effectively though a combination of displays and prominent guests.
