2012 Bronze Award: Cleaning & Restoration – November/December 2011

Commemoration/Tribute

Judge’s Comments: As associations, we are indebted to our long-time contributors who have dedicated their lives mastering the industry in which they work and educating colleagues and up-and-comers along the way. Ms. Patti Harman, Editor-in-Chief of Cleaning & Restoration, wrote in her Commentary for this special tribute to Martin King, that she had hoped “this tribute expresses our heartfelt thanks and admiration for the impact he [King] has had on so many.” With touching imagery, and pages of personal messages throughout, we would say, Ms. Harman, you’ve nailed it.

2012 Bronze Award: Last Word – April 24, 2012

Daily or Weekly Communication

Judge’s Comments: American Council of Engineering Companies’ Last Word is full of news-oriented content with clear connections to membership interests. Regular charts, photos, and features pass along information in a mostly-graphic way. Photo captions convey almost as much detail as the stories themselves. The April 2012 issue was particularly robust, because it contained post-conference coverage.

2012 Bronze Award: PMA “Member Stories” Campaign

Direct Marketing Piece/Promotion

Judge’s Comments: Over the years many entrants have tried the “Washington angle” for their group often end up in the weeds. This is a great exception; The PMA  brochure’s writing is clear and to the point; The information about the PMA has a human interest story. This story telling is really very strong and permits key points to be naturally introduced into the this entrant; The layout is easy to follow and designed to be read as a headline and a topic sentence without loss of understanding; QR codes and a special pma.com/memberstories provide quick ways to get the details across to members and non-members.

2012 Bronze Award: APHON/PBMTC Foundations of Pediatric Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Transplantation: A Core Curriculum

Educational Program

Judge’s Comments: The HPCT Core Curriculum Program is impressive in both its depth and tools provided for its instructors. The full course composed of 24 modules is provided on a thumb drive for easy access and portability. I was particularly pleased to see that notes for the potential instructor and evaluation tracking forms were provided. These additions make it easier to educate across multiple audiences and measure effectiveness of the training.
