Research & Select the Best LMS for Your Organization

You may have seen posts about different learning management systems on social media. There are plenty of articles about how such-and-such LMS was “chosen as the #1 LMS” in gamification, social learning, blended learning, you name it.

The best learning technology is whatever suits the needs of your organization. And every organization is different.

There are tons of LMS comparison reports on the Internet, and there’s a reason. The people creating them get paid by learning technology vendors who want a shiny badge to put on their platform. A gold star to make them stand out amongst hundreds of other vendors.

I’m not saying they are doing something wrong. If I’d created a product, and my livelihood was based on sales, certainly I’d be motivated to find creative ways to market my goods.

So, vendors buy spots on LMS comparison reports. They pay to be considered and ranked. Independent LMS consultants are paid a lot of money to provide sound bites, endorsements, and white papers saying how stupendous a particular LMS is.

Since I began selling my LMS books, I’ve been offered payment, kickbacks, and all sorts of other deals to endorse products, or refer clients to a particular vendor. I’ve never accepted payment from a vendor for any of these things. But there are plenty of people who do.

(As a quick aside, I have no problem with any consultant who partners with a vendor and is upfront about it. I just think it’s important to be honest about affiliations. If someone is paying you, say so.)
