2013 Gold Award: Media Opportunities 2014 – The Worldwide Corrosion Authority

Advertising Media Kit
Media Opportunities 2014 – The Worldwide Corrosion Authority

Judge’s Comments: NACE – NACE had a wonderful kit this year. The design was simple and organized. The tabs and consistent layout help potentially advertisers quickly and easily find the information they are looking for. I also really liked that they included an opening letter from the Group Publisher. They were the only entry to do so and it was a nice call-back to the magazines themselves. I also thought they did a wonderful job highlighting the readership statistics with a few quick info-graphics.

Dimensions

Judge’s Comments: The association redesigned this issue in 2011 “to give it a clean, contemporary, sophisticated look and increase its readability and ease of navigation.” The design also included new departments that allowed the association to “give our readers a greater voice in the magazine and to more fully represent the diversity of our membership.” This title has all the elements of a gold winning entry. The front cover illustration draws you in and continues with great photography, readable typography and interesting graphics throughout the issue. This title clearly provides its members with useful information that can be applied to their specific institutions

2013 Gold Award: Past Future: North Carolina Medical Society Community Report

Annual Report
Past Future: North Carolina Medical Society Community Report

Judge’s Comments: This is a beautiful publication that uses photography and personal testimony to describe the mission and work of the society. It was almost like reading a magazine. The soft tones of the photographs and the silky feel of the paper contribute to the overall pleasant feel of this report. The personal statements were crafted in such a way as to pay tribute to the organization’s past, while addressing how the Society is adapting for both current and future change. The financial and administrative information, that is a basic requirement of every annual report, is kept to one succinct summary on the last page, thus allowing the emphasis on the society’s work and its members to be foremost throughout the report.

Commemoration/Tribute
30th Annual IALD International Lighting Design Awards commemorative brochure

Judge’s Comments: Simply captivating. The careful choice of font and paper makes the pages of this finely printed piece come to life. Many times I found myself running my fingers over the section titles thinking there was texture on the pages. The exquisite layout is thoughtful and engaging. Text to image balance was right on. The manner in which the brochure is delivered is also quite impressive, earning a perfect ten in the Effectiveness category

Convention Program
InterGrowth 2013 Onsite Guide

Judge’s Comments: This is one of the better convention programs we’ve seen in a while, incorporating a number of features that make it an effective tool for the convention attendee: both as an easy-to-follow reference during the event and as a useful resource afterward. Probably the best attribute in our opinion is the “Schedule at a Glance” inside the front cover, that folds out to reveal a two-page spread with an easy-to-read map of the convention facility. The entire publication is well-designed, with a clean and crisp look throughout, and information presented in a logical and concise way. This results in a comprehensive and informative document that is not too cumbersome to carry around and facilitates being able to obtain needed conference information quickly and easily.
