Judge’s Comments: NACE – NACE had a wonderful kit this year. The design was simple and organized. The tabs and consistent layout help potentially advertisers quickly and easily find the information they are looking for. I also really liked that they included an opening letter from the Group Publisher. They were the only entry to do so and it was a nice call-back to the magazines themselves. I also thought they did a wonderful job highlighting the readership statistics with a few quick info-graphics.

Judge’s Comments: LD+A – This had one of the best overall designs of the entries. It was a crisp, well-organized design and similar to the NACE entry, the tabs help potential advertisers quickly get to the relevant information. The content was well written and had the right information about the audience advertisers would want to know before deciding to advertise. The editorial calendar was well laid out with the right information for booking advertising as well as a good overview of what would be featured in that month’s issue. I also enjoyed the slide out rate cards, I could see it being very helpful for frequent advertisers to pull out and have handy in their office.

Judge’s Comments:  I loved the submission by AHF. The design was simple but still aesthetically pleasing and the unique shape helps it to standout. It was well written with only the information potential sponsors would need. I really liked that they included a quote from a past sponsor who was able to speak to all of the benefits of sponsoring the conference. I also thought they did a wonderful job previewing the other partnership/advertising opportunities without making it confusing, or taking away from their immediate goal – conference sponsorship.

What, I found really informative was the breakdown of the “top selling categories” in the stores. I could see how for potential advertisers this would help to give them an advantage to determine their advertising. The editorial calendar was well laid out with the right information for booking advertising as well as a good overview of what would be featured in that month’s issue. They also did a good job organizing each of the various advertising opportunities whether it be for the website, the e-newsletter, the trade show or the magazine.

Judge’s Comments: Comment on Bronze Winner MSCI – The Forward magazine media kit was well organized and designed. While it was not the “flashiest” design it also wasn’t lacking. More importantly, the content was well written and it was very clear for me, as a potential advertiser, who I would be reaching and what I would get for my investment. I really liked that the advertising kit included a quote from a reader, while others included quotes from other advertisers, this was a unique advantage. I also liked that in addition to the editorial calendar, the kit included an overview of their “regular departments,” providing a bit more information about the content advertisements would be featured with.

Judge’s Comments: The IFT Media Kit is incredibly well laid out. What I particularly liked about this entry was how easy it is to navigate either while viewing online or printed out. Often times, media kits only work well in one of these formats. For the digital version, I loved the click-through option on the main page; when navigating a 21 page document this made it very easy. It had the most comprehensive editorial calendar which is incredibly helpful for targeting advertising. All of the specs and prices were also laid out making any outstanding questions null.

The design and bright colors were a nice addition but perhaps most importantly though, it was not overwhelming – in either design or content. I greatly liked the way they included the Insertion Order and Rate Card.

Judge’s Comment: ALA took a very unique approach to their media kit, focusing on the strategy and benefits of advertising with them. The media kit was laid out in a way that made it seem you have a partner in advertising. Beginning with providing thorough demographics of the individuals advertiser’s will reach and all the way through customizing “your plan” they made it possible to see the whole picture. I could see this approach helping to engage someone who in the past would only think about print advertising to now look at web-based or in-person.
