2013 Gold Award: Fueled by ACS

Fueled by ACS

Judge’s Comments: Fantastic campaign to attract students to the ACS National meeting, reaching out to students within 500 miles of the conference location and encouraging them to post pictures of their “roadtrip to Indy” for chance to get their gas money reimbursed.  Well thought out strategy that appealed to younger people, that used visual elements that are so attractive on social media, that enabled easy sharing through the hashtag, and that offered something for the participant as well as great content curation (lots of photos for future use!) and brand awareness at the same time.  Social media savviness combined with a timely call to action and community-building – a perfect campaign in every respect.

2013 Silver Award: Promoting A4A’s Don’t Ground America Campaign through Twitter

Promoting A4A’s Don’t Ground America Campaign through Twitter

Judge’s Comments: Great example of the power of social media in crisis communications.  When the FAA announced air traffic controller furloughs, meaning widespread flight delays and cancellations, A4A responded within 24 hours through their social media channels, and specifically Twitter, to build grassroots support for legislation to fix the situation and end the furloughs.  This campaign is a perfect case study for the need to have an online presence before you need it, to build trust in your community so that when an industry crisis occurs, the community will support you – so that not only can you respond to the crisis and make change happen, but you also build brand awareness and grow that community of supporters at the same time.  Textbook, and awesome.

2013 Bronze Award: Women in Manufacturing: Connecting women in the manufacturing sector online

Women in Manufacturing: Connecting women in the manufacturing sector online

Judge’s Comments: A majority of association now have some social media presence on all the major social sites. But this group has their community at the heart of their social media strategy at all times – supporting and connecting women in a male-dominated industry.  Therefore, their tactics are about much more than promoting and marketing their products and services, they are about fostering connectedness and the visibility of their target constituents. Their social media presence is not just friendly but supportive, helpful, empowering, connecting. Their sites are also full integrated with each other, so content shared in one place is accessible in every place.  Very, very well evolved and executed, mission-driven strategy.

Judge’s Comments: Very good use of twitter. If this were simply a Twitter category, they might win. But this show a great way to communicate what is happening at a conference to members.

AICPA Social Media and AICPA Insights

Judge’s Comment: The first thing that stands out about the American Institute of CPA’s is their thorough social media plan. Many social media plans will include one or two social networking sites, but the AICPA has embraced more than just Facebook and Twitter, they have utilized LinkedIn, YouTube and maintain an active blog. The use of LinkedIn is particularly impressive. LinkedIn can be a powerful tool for professional associations, and AICPA has leveraged it well. They maintain two groups, one closed for members only information and the other open to all people will an interest in the field. The careful attention they’ve paid to all of their social networks has paid off with impressive growth in their ability to connect, communicate and educate their members. The campaign is to be commended.

Trusted Choice Facebook Fundraiser

Judge’s Comment: This campaign was not only effective, but shows how strong partnerships can generate strong return. Trusted Choice grew organically because they were donating money to a well known charity. By tying the amount of money being donated to new likes, the association not only grew the social media base, but also generated incredible good will while solidifying a solid brand image.
