Many associations experienced disruptions in their operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) is designed to provide targeted relief to those organizations that have been financially or operationally affected.

Immediate liquidity may be available for organizations through the ERTC, currently up to $33,000 per employee, based on facts. 

While legislative changes have expanded the potential candidates for the ERTC, navigating the rules can be complex. This session will cover common misconceptions that prevent eligible organizations from exploring the credit.

Carley Lane, RSM

Carley Lane is a leader in the Exempt Organizations tax practice at RSM US LLP.  She provides extensive leadership, management guidance, and charitable program planning to tax-exempt organizations including associations, community foundations, private colleges and universities, educational and social services organizations, and corporate and family private foundations. With 15 years of experience devoted exclusively to serving RSM’s nonprofit clients, Carley is a national resource within the firm for RSM’s nonprofit industry group and clients. 

Toby Ruda, RSM

Toby Ruda is a senior director and a member of the RSM US LLP Washington National Tax compensation and benefits practice. She has more than 25 years of experience in employee benefit plan tax and compliance issues. Toby focuses on advising clients of the audit, tax and advisory practices on a wide range of benefit, compensation and payroll tax matters associated with employee benefits, equity compensation and qualified retirement plans, including ERISA associated rules. Toby is a certified public accountant in North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Emory University.
